Sorenson had no sooner returned from the shuttle bay to reset staging for initial casualties to be sent to main medbay, when they'd received word that not only was there to be no rescue mission but the ship was ...being impounded, for lack of a better term, pending a determination of whether Voyager and Admiral Janeway had stolen valuable materials from the Republic. So, they were not going to be going into the mines to rescue anyone, although if this Director V'Karix had his way, they might be going in as forced labor...
With luck it wouldn't come to a fight, but Martin didn't believe in luck. At least not the good kind. During the time he'd worked with Doctors Without Borders, he'd learned to expect sudden changes of circumstance, frequently including potentially disastrous ones. Raids, fights, power failures - anything that could go wrong did, and usually while he was wrist deep in a patient's gut. Dr. M'ral, one his colleagues at the refugee camp, used to wonder aloud, usually amid a string of hissing Caitian curses, what they'd ever done to "twist the tail of your human god, Murphy".
Martin shook his head and swallowed, resisting an urge to chuckle at the memory; the medbay staff would probably think their CMO had cracked if he started laughing. However, it certainly appeared that Murphy was alive and well in the Delta Quadrant. Either that or they'd hacked off some other local god.
Putting such thoughts aside, the doctor closed the mission notes and checklist on his PADD and opened a fresh screen before stepping forward to address the other medbay personnel. "Okay, I'm sure the Captain, Intel, and Security are doing everything they can to resolve this, but we need to prepare. We're prepped for trauma casualties, but not for battle if they try to take the ship. Emergency teams, we've drilled this. Now let's find out how fast we can really set up for a multiple boarding parties scenario." As they fell to the task, he turned to the rest. "Everyone else, start searching medical records for evidence that might help avoid that scenario. Check Voyager's medical files, including the Mark I's personal logs, for anything that might indicate who or what was impersonating Janeway - entries on shape shifters, holographic imitations, telepathic spoofing...", waves hand in circular use-your-imagination gesture, "...evidence of Mirrorverse doppelgangers, anything you can think of that might explain this."
"And if we find something, pray they're willing to consider it," he thought as he went to join the emergency preparations. "If they're at all like us, it may hard to get them to accept something, when taking a prize depends on not accepting it..."
