Patient Hand Off

Timeline: after The Plan

Martin materialized beside his patient. The Ziapteryx pilot was sedated and lightly restrained to an antigrav gurney, and the Aria was an older ship with full regular crew, but the doctor still scanned the transporter room for holograms, just in case.

"Dr. Sorenson, I presume," a medical officer greeted, stepping forward as others moved to guide the gurney off the transport pad. "I'm Dr. Ariolaj, the CMO."

"Pleased to meet you, Doctor," he responded. "I assumed you received my report on the patient and all EMH and other holograms are shutdown?"

"Yes." Ariolaj nodded, thinking that it also explained why the Nelson's doctor looked like he'd been living on whatever his favorite stim was for the last few days. "I can't imagine having to rely on only those," she said sympathetically as they turned down the corridor toward medbay.

"You don't know the half of it..." He shook his head. "But it was made all the more challenging since I could not in fact rely on them at all." His mouth went a bit sideways. "Just my luck to encounter an alien whose ocular system couldn't handle holographic projection." A thought hit as they reached the medbay doors. "Did you -"

"Shut down holographic control and bio-imaging panels? Yes, we assumed that was included in your warning," she assured him.

Martin smiled, dipping his head slightly. "Sorry. I should have known you'd realize from the physiology work up. There've just been so many surprises and failure points..." he wiped a hand over his face, "...and not enough decent coffee to make up for sleeping in my office."

"Don't worry, we have him now and plenty of non-holographic nurses for monitoring him. I understand intel is eager to speak with him once he's lucid. Are there any caveats I should know about there?" she asked.

"No. I only have him sedated as an extra precaution. A bit paranoid, maybe," he admitted with a shrug. "But this shakedown has been Murphy's playground so I didn't want to risk that some hologram popped up before we got over here. Technically, he's fit for questioning so long as it isn't too intensive. We held off because his stress indicators spiked the moment he recognized where he was - he kept squawking 'No! Help! Keep them away!' and flailing enough that I was worried he was going to re-tear muscles." Martin frowned. Jack and Asahi might avoid medical like the plague, but he'd never felt like he'd been responsible for terrifying a patient before. "In any case, I'd advise having real people around and giving him some time to adjust after he comes to."

"Understood, Doctor." Ariolaj looked to where the avian patient was being moved onto a biobed, and signed off on the patient transfer on her PaDD. "We have him from here. And if you don't mind some medical advice, go get some rest."

Real sleep, in a real bed... Martin smiled. "Thank you, Doctor, I will take that as an order.
