Physical Description | A boy with a mixed racial background, Lien presents with an ambiguously brown skin tone and coarse, dark hair. Though hard to see in some lighting, a line of freckles dot his cheeks and nose. |
General Overview | Warm-hearted, good natured, and an eternal optimist, Lien has an intense curiosity about how the world around him operates. This drives a habit of disassembling things so that he can try to understand how it works... but the habit gets him in trouble a lot because he's better at the "taking it apart" part than he is the "put it back together" part. Lien's most notable trait is his sweet tooth.
Strengths & Weaknesses | To his credit, Lien is brilliant, imaginative, and optimistic -- all traits that combine to make him a promising Starfleet officer. To his detriment, Lien is brilliant but lazy, curious to a fault, and is the size of the average Fifth Grader, with the physical constitution to match. He's the last pick for pick-up Parrises Squares. |

Ambitions | Graduate the Academy, earn his commission, and become a Starfleet Officer. Also, figure out what kind of Starfleet officer he wants to be.
Hobbies & Interests | Games. Card games. Holo-games. Roleplaying games. And comics, but those are often merchandising tie-ins for one of his games. |
Personal History | A native to the North American continent on Earth-2, Lien survived the viral apocalypse that devastated his planet's population and left the survivors stranded for three hundred years, at which time their planet was discovered by the Federation research team dispatched by Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise, following their discovery of the planet and the children residing there. A decade of re-education programs helped to socialize and introduce Lien and the other children to the 23rd Century. In particular, Lien took an interest in STEM, having a curiosity about how things worked. As the school founded by Kirk evolved into a grand Montessori experiment, Lien was able to explore that curiosity over the next century. In that time, Onlies started joining Starfleet. Eva was the first, at the dawn of the Century, with Mack a decade later. Kyan and Jack followed a few decades after that. But the prospect of joining Starfleet hadn't been more than a passing interest for the boy until the Onlies learned that the Federation had gone to war with the Cardassian Union. From that point on, Lien began applying for the entrance exams. Year after year, he applied for the exams, washing out by the second or third round. Still, he kept at it. Years became decades. Nolan was accepted to the science program. Naota was drafted into the Dominion War. Still, Lien applied and still his application was rejected. Even when Jai was accepted to Starfleet Medical and Lien was denied, he didn't stop. He'd been applying to Starfleet Academy for 42 years. It had become a ritual. He never expected to be accepted, but he also refused to quit. Then, on his 43rd application to the Academy... something different happened. |
