Physical Description Noah Finch has a lean, athletic build that reflects his physically demanding engineering work. His boyish face often belies the amount of experience he holds, and his perpetually observant deep brown eyes are always scanning his environment. His light brown hair is slightly unkempt, usually longer than Starfleet’s regulations, giving him a subtly rebellious look. Finch’s hands show calluses from years of hands-on work, and he has a small tattoo of a sailboat and anchor on his wrist—a personal reminder of his connection to the sea or perhaps his desire for freedom. He moves with quiet confidence, deliberate and efficient, whether he’s in a Jeffries tube or navigating a social situation.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Finch can be described as wholesome, quiet and overly professional but also playful, kind and genuinely enjoys working with his crewmates and supervisors. He's socially awkward around non-engineers at times, but depending on the person, his nerdy charms can be overlooked. His gregariousness is often confused for extroversion. People seek him out during breaks to play chess, not necessarily because he's good, but because he's fun to play against. While inter-departmental colleagues find his calm personality easy to talk to, in fact, he is introverted and socializing with overly chatty people can wear him out. He is at his happiest deep within the belly of the ship working alone or when reading a technical manual in the lounge, but he would never shy away from an intelligent or personal conversation.
Strengths & Weaknesses Finch At Work
While working on things that would normally bore others, Finch finds comfort in routine preventative maintenance tasks or things like cleaning CO2 scrubbers. If he forms attachments, it's often to inanimate objects—like his favourite plasma cutter—rather than people. Despite this, for those who can stand Finch's obsession with his work, his reluctance for exciting social gatherings, or his unwavering politeness, people would find a comfortable confidant who actively listens.

Finch's humour is subtle, dry, and often mechanical-themed, sprinkled with puns that only make sense to fellow engineers. He's known for being surprisingly cheeky or playful despite his usual quiet professional attitude. He follows rules, regulations and protocols but is far from being hardnosed. He enjoys mentoring crewmates.

Finch During Emergency or Conflict
He's known for being quiet but also doesn't hesitate to speak up. In times of high stress, Finch steps outside his quiet demeanour. His confidence in his skills allows him to be assertive when he makes recommendations or decisions. He remains calm, incredibly positive and encouraging in emergencies. He dislikes violence but will defend those in need when duty calls for it. He has never been involved in a hand-to-hand conflict, and the prospect is the furthest from his mind.

Finch Off Duty
Finch grew up a single child. His father and mother had moved to Mars early in his life, and Finch chose to stand behind on Earth and live with an uncle who was never at home. He's used to being alone and is comfortable with his thoughts. He doesn't have any close friends but secretly longs for them. He has no romantic interests. His thoughts are filled with personal projects, and learning new things. He takes care of his body and believes strongly in wellness, but it comes more as a natural habit rather than an obsession or hobby. He loves playing chess, but especially blitz chess. He's terrible at slow-paced or untimed chess as his mind wanders too much and needs a more stimulating game. He loves his parents but with their schedule, they only speak every once in a while.

Finch Private Thoughts
Finch masks his loneliness with his polite wholesome personality. He longs for friends, but is uninterested in the drama or banality "friends" usually bring in the small social conventions he distastes. He's unconcerned with gossip. He prefers cultivating professional mentorships. He greatly fears doing something unhelpful or making an avoidable mistake, and he overcompensates with this by being as prepared as possible. A part of him thinks others don't like him (which is the opposite of the truth), and is overly polite, especially during rare arguments, as a defence mechanism.
Ambitions Finch doesn’t have an interest in being an officer or warrant. He enjoyed being enlisted, and enjoyed very much being a specialist in a niche part of engineering. He is currently studying for his Chief Petty Officer exam, and looks forward to leading a small team of specialists. He plans to stay enlisted till he’s Chief of the Boat one day.
He hopes some day making friends becomes easier for himself to get a hobby that isn’t work related.
Hobbies & Interests Chess and sailing

Personal History Finch was born in Okinawa and lived there while his father, Elias, was still in Starfleet. He is now a retired engineer currently advising on Mars where he lives with Noah’s mom, Lyra Finch who is a research scientist specializing in planetary sciences.
He doesn’t remember Okinawa much, only that both his parents worked at Daystrom Institute. When his father retired from Starfleet, he continued consulting at Daystrom on mars. Shortly after moving, Finch moved to London to live with his uncle. Wanting to follow in his fathers foot steps, he chose to enlist in Starfleet, with the hopes of one day working in the Corps of Engineers, or leading a specialized crew on a ship, or building starships.
Service Record 2387 (Age 18): Enlists in Starfleet and begins engineering training at Starfleet Technical Services Academy which had set up remote training on Earth after the Mars attack in 2385.

2389 (Age 20): Graduates from training with specialization in starship components engineering and system diagnostics. Assigned to the USS Kowloon, a cargo transport vessel, as an Engineer's Mate. Finch gained hands-on experience with older, finicky starship systems. He excelled at diagnostics and pursued additional training in structural engineering.

2391 (Age 22): Having a desire to further specialize in Sovereign class components and systems, Finch transferred to USS Ark Royal. While the dullness of structured, methodical maintenance routines nearly bored him to death the skills he gained was undeniable. After leading an impromptu repair team to restore critical life support systems following a power grid failure, Finch gains a reputation for being resourceful under pressure.

2395 (Age 26): Promoted to Petty Officer 1st Class. Assigned to the USS Horizon, a cutting-edge long-range science vessel, as a structural and environmental specialist. This is the first time Specialist Finch takes on a lead role overseeing junior enlisted personnel in the engineering department.
